Known for pushing the boundaries of gender and sexuality, Lady Gaga recently posed for the cover of the Japanese version of Vogue for men as her male Gaga alter ego, Jo Calderone. Lady Gaga, as Jo, posed with short dark hair, a white tank top, and black pants while looking very much like a Gaga dude.
Although there have been wild gender rumors about Lady Gaga in the past, it’s clear that Gaga likes to push the sexual envelope. The most interesting part of the Lady Gaga cover shot for Japanese Vogue is the short interview that accompanies it, which features Gaga in character as her alter ego, Jo Calderone.
Who is Jo Calderone? He’s an Italian mechanic if you go along with the Vogue interview, or simply Lady Gaga dressed as a guy. Either way, it’s just another interesting way that Lady Gaga has found to express her creativity.
Check out a sneak peek of the interview below:
Where are you from?
Palermo, Sicily
How would you describe what you do / your occupation?
Mechanic for my dad’s business. This is the first time I’ve had my picture taken.
When did you discover you wanted to do this?
Well, I always helped my dad at work, since I was a kid. I thought it would be fun to have my picture taken.
What are your ambitions?
I’d love to own my own car shop, I have a bunch of my own ‘muscle’ cars. Maybe if I take some more pictures I can afford it.
What is your relationship with Lady Gaga?
I met her at a shoot Nick Knight was doing. She’s fuckin beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, “Don’t be baby, you were “born this way.” I took her out after. The rest is private
